Discover a leafy and flowery treat

Dessert that’s good for you, delicious and served in biodegradable packaging? Sounds impossible, but it isn’t. Behold the humble Halapa! A traditional favourite devoured by the young and the old, rich and poor. It’s a dessert that can be whipped up with minimum fuss and put on the table in record time. Halapa is made by mixing kurakkan & rice flour, caramelised kithul treacle, cardamom, and grated coconut into a dough. This dough is flattened, placed on one-half of a broad Kanda leaf and then the other half is folded over, placed in a steamer for 30 minutes and voila! Fresh hot Halapa is served. As you casually devour multiple servings (and you will), you could complete the experience by pairing it with a tasty cup of Belimal Tea accompanied by a piece of Kithul Jaggery. Belimal Tea is a traditional herbal drink made with flowers from the Beli Tree and used over generations to rejuvenate the body. Creating and enjoying both is quite a fun and delicious experience and not to be missed!
