Progress of the Human-Elephant Conflict (HEC) Mitigation Project

Although hampered by the Covid-19 related travel restrictions in the last few months, the project has progressed steadily and is, we are happy to report, nearly complete. Finishing touches are being applied to the tank at Konketiya village as we await the monsoon rains to fill up the tank to make this project operational. Once the tank is filled by the rains, the grassland management phase will begin and field observations will be conducted thereafter.

Happier days are ahead

Happier days are ahead The strict measures implemented by the government agencies have been very effective and, although it did create some hard times for a lot of people, the result has been worth it. The worst appears to be behind us, as there is a considerable drop in active Covid-19 cases. The vaccination drive has been very successful too with over half the population having received both doses of the vaccine to date.
