Overcoming hardships has always been a hallmark of Sri Lankans, and that trait truly prevailed during the Sinhala & Tamil New Year celebrations this month. The Avurudu Kreeda or Festival games that are usually held in every village, hamlet, town and city were absent this time. But instead, the spirit of giving was prevalent and very much the focus, with hope for better things ahead being the mantra on everyone's lips.
